Helen’s Specialties

Helen first encountered Chinese medical ideas and attitudes while studying abroad in
China during college. Morning Tai Chi along with other regular supportive care, such as
massage, acupuncture and Chinese herbs helped many of the people she met maintain an
active, fulfilling lifestyle well beyond what she expected at home in the US.
With a BS in both biology and humanities, the holistic approach of Chinese Medicine is a
perfect fit for Helen. Chinese Medicine’s balanced, holistic approach helps achieve and
maintain optimal health whether you struggle with chronic ailments or recent injuries, or
simply want to increase your overall level of balance and wellness.
Although she considers herself a general practitioner and enjoys helping with a variety of
injuries and ailments, Helen has several areas of extra interest: muscle and joint pain and
soreness, headaches and sinus trouble, vertigo, anxiety and depression, gastrointestinal
health, and women’s health: pregnancy support along with hormonal balance for healthy
cycles, fertility, post-partum, and menopause.

First appointment

Your first visit will consist of a complete work-up in the acupuncture or Traditional Chinese Medicine paradigm.  This consists of an interview investigating your chief complaint and life history. The interview varies in time, pain and injury interviews go quickly and more complex cases take longer.  Pulse diagnosis will also be given as injury, pain, and disease imprint on the pulse.  As the ancient Chinese did not have the benefit of biology and imaging observing the body and the pulse became the primary means of evaluating the organ systems and developing a differential diagnosis.

With the information gathered Helen will make an initial assessment, recommend a course of acupuncture treatments.

Supplementing treatments with nutrition and herbs

In conjunction with acupuncture, Helen recommends nutrition and herbs to support the foundation of our health and to assist bringing the body back into balance. Helen is a fully certified Traditional Chinese Medicine Herbalist and uses the traditional Chinese herbal apothecary in conjunction with whole food nutritional supplements and nutraceuticals to complement their acupuncture treatments.
